Civica Appoints New Services Director

Industry expert joins leading parking enforcement team

1st October 2003. London...
Civica, the UK's most experienced provider of software and services to the parking industry, has appointed Jim Gales as Services Director. Based in Civica's Luton office, Gales will be responsible for the development and roll out of Civica's latest parking enforcement solutions based on the Microsoft .Net platform. The new technology will make it easier to incorporate the raft of new applications available to the parking industry to improve performance and efficiency.

Gales has been actively involved in the parking industry for 17 years. Before joining Civica, he was a parking consultant with Southcott Consultants Limited. He has served on the Executive Council of the British Parking Association for the past five years. His experience spans both the technical and operational perspectives within parking, which gives him a thorough understanding of the issues and challenges facing today's parking departments.

Commenting on his new position, Gales says: "Technology has been moving at such a pace that parking departments are faced with a wealth of new applications. It is important, however, that technology providers also have a true understanding of the wider parking industry. I chose to join Civica because of the company's stability, its end-to-end capabilities and its position as the principal supplier of managed services in the sector. Civica is committed to being the services partner of choice and I'm looking forward to working alongside our customers to achieve improved services and efficiency benefits." Civica is committed to driving forward technology development in the parking sector and recent developments include:

  • The introduction of hand held units equipped with General Packet Radio Services (GPRS) wireless technology to allow tickets to be issued in real-time, ensuring faster ticket processing and in turn revenue generation.
  • Electronic transfer of appeals information to the relevant appeals and adjudication bodies.
  • An emissions monitoring solution, which enables enforcement officers to serve notice on vehicles that are contravening emissions regulations. This system will help improve the environment for local communities.

Gales is 51 and lives in Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire.
