Civica Demonstrates Latest Intelligence-Led Policing Solutions

Civica, one of the UK's most experienced specialist providers of public sector software and services, is demonstrating advanced mobile solutions for police enforcement on stand D11 at the ACPO 2003 showcase. Increasingly integrating CCTV and Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) with advanced mobile and browser technologies, Civica's solutions deliver greater efficiency with improved capabilities for intelligence-led policing.

Civica offers complete low-risk solutions from specialist systems to fully managed services, and supplies 47 of the UK's 53 police forces. As a Microsoft Gold Certified Partner, Civica also supplies software under a framework agreement with ACPO in addition to being an approved Prime Contractor for software in the Government's GCat procurement catalogue.

At ACPO, the company will be highlighting a number of camera surveillance, ANPR and Police National Computer access solutions, together with highlighting VENOM, Civica's latest 32-bit Microsoft .NET version of its Vehicle Enquiry Manager (VEM) software. VEM forms the backbone of the company's ANPR solutions, and VENOM brings easy scalability from stand-alone laptop deployments to large, multi-server architectures supporting large camera populations.

Civica's ANPR solutions are widely used in both static and mobile operations and support a range of applications at many different levels:

Portable applications: Civica's Panther ANPR has the ability to monitor multiple lanes of high-speed traffic whilst deployed in hot, cold, dry or wet environments, day or night. It is one of a series of solutions in Civica's ANPR portfolio of systems that are helping customers to tackle crime though intelligent vehicle identification.
Mobile Vehicle applications, particularly for use in patrol cars: Civica's Cheetah ANPR can be either permanently fixed or fitted onto a removable frame to allow deployment in an alternative vehicle, thus allowing essential vehicle maintenance to be undertaken with minimum operational disruption.
Fully integrated CCTV / ANPR applications: Bringing together powerful technologies in a specialist vehicle, Civica's Cobra solution has a number of different configurations that typically include a hydraulic mast, onboard "whisper quiet" petrol generator, multi-lane ANPR capability, video recording facilities, overt and covert livery, and a comfortable, secure working environment.
Fixed installations (such as car parks): Civica's Sentinel is a turnkey fixed camera ANPR solution designed to monitor specific locations. The Sentinel solution includes design, cameras, installation, video transmission media, ANPR readers, database checking and alert facilities.

Civica also provides the most comprehensive range of options for access to the Police National Computer (PNC). These include standard web browser solutions (e-PNC), and mobile access for use with laptops, tablets and PDAs (PeNCe), as well as a system-to-system interface (Lynx) which allows applications such as ANPR, Command and Control or Custody to interface with the PNC.
