Investors Overview
Civica, which is incorporated and registered in England and Wales, is a well established and profitable software and IT services business specialising in the public sector market. The main country of operation is the UK although it has significant operations in Australia and Singapore and a smaller US subsidiary. Main activities are consultancy, software and managed services, and following the acquisition of the Comino group in February 2006 the Group employs approximately 1,200 employees.

Civica operates within the local government, social housing, criminal justice, education and healthcare sectors, supplying more than 1,500 public sector organisations as well as with a number of major commercial firms. Customers supplied include 89% of local authorities in the UK and more than 100 Australian local authorities, 85% of UK police forces, 150 housing organisations, 1,100 libraries around the world and over 200 NHS Trusts. Civica also works with central government departments, such as the Department for Work and Pensions, to address local strategy and performance issues.

Consulting

The Group provides business and IT systems consultancy, blending advice, planning and service management with systems integration to recommend and implement change based on market insight and industry best practice. Services range from creating and delivering performance plans to infrastructure deployment. Examples include a detailed review of business processes and performance management as part of a consortium project to develop a unified benefits dashboard system across ten Scottish authorities; service and financial review for customers such as Sheffield City Council, Brighton & Hove City Council and the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead; and productivity tools designed and built for VT Education to automate Ofsted inspection reporting.

Software

Civica provides a comprehensive suite of proven software applications that underpin local service delivery and efficiency. Each of these systems has been developed in conjunction with practitioners and continues to be enhanced to incorporate technological developments and legislative change.

These systems provide the means to deliver efficient technology-enabled and citizen-focused public services. Focused on engineering and then automating streamlined business processes to deliver tangible benefits, the group provides both front line service delivery solutions, including contact management, workflow, electronic document management and mobile working, together with a range of effective back office administration systems. Business areas include finance and income management, revenues & benefits, environmental health, trading standards, parking and traffic management, social housing, planning, waste management, legal services and fleet management, as well as police and community safety.

Managed services

Civica offers a proven suite of managed services that can be provided as standalone components or under a full service agreement. The company takes responsibility for processes, systems and infrastructure on behalf of customers, providing the means to improve process or IT costs and replace unpredictable or fixed costs with a monthly charge or usage-based fee. Recent contracts, which tend to be long term in nature and typically between 3 and 7 years, include a multi-year agreement with Manchester City Council as part of a wider focus on the local street environment and a 10 year partnership with NCP to provide parking services for St Albans City and District Council.
