Civica Demonstrates Strong Momentum in Legal Sector

Company wins 15 new contracts in 2002 across the private and public sectors and implements innovative technology

10 February 2003, London...
Civica, one of the UK's leading providers of IT-based legal solutions, reported strong momentum in the Legal market in 2002. This includes new product enhancements to its Galaxy integrated practice and case management solutions as well as an increase in the number of private and public organisations investing with Civica in 2002 compared to 2001.

"I am delighted by our performance in the legal sector, which endorses our position as a partner of choice", said Simon Parkes, Managing Director of Civica's Enforcement business unit. "We are committed to delivering products and services that help clients reduce cost and risk while improving productivity and increasing competitiveness. Since the formation of Civica, we are adding value through complementary offerings that include professional services, IT infrastructure solutions and software licensing services, in addition to our own Galaxy applications suite".

In this highly competitive sector, Civica secured new contracts in 2002 with customers that include Clarke Willmott & Clarke, Thring Townsend, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, Beachcroft Wansbrough, London Borough of Lewisham, London Borough of Bexley and Horsham District Council.

One particular driver is the increasing pressure being placed on both private practices and legal departments by professional indemnity insurers to establish adequate risk management procedures. In response to this, many legal organisations are conforming to the Lexcel Practice Management Standards, which address areas such as case management, office administration and financial management and are recognised by the Legal Services Commission and the Law Society.

"Many legal practices and departments use fragmented IT systems to address the specific areas of their business," continued Parkes. "Adopting the Practice Management Standards is an opportunity to streamline operations and improve efficiency, however this requires integrating the different IT applications within the organisastion, which can prove costly and complex. With Galaxy, we can help bring all areas within a department or practice together, resulting in a cost effective and efficient operation compliant with the Practice Management Standards."

Recent technological innovations incorporate:

  • Web Galaxy - enabling case management to be handled over the web. Clients can access the progress of cases over the Internet to achieve greater efficiency and responsiveness
  • SMS messaging - providing easier communication between house buyers / sellers and their legal representatives to enhance client service
  • Automated billing - streamlining the billing process to improve cash flow
  • Interfaces to Legal Marketing Services Ltd's STARS case tracker system
  • The provision of XML interfaces to Galaxy
