19 April 2006, Bath… Civica plc, one of the UK’s most experienced providers of consulting, software and managed services to the public sector, has launched a new version of its Authority Public Protection software to help local authorities to process new housing licenses, following government legislation which came into effect on 6 April 2006.

The new ‘houses in multiple occupancy’ (HMO) licensing legislation has been introduced to improve the standard of accommodation and requires landlords with houses meeting certain criteria to register with their local authority for a license.

Civica has enhanced its Authority Public Protection software and services in consultation with the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM) and its 200 local authority clients to include new features to help with HMO licensing.

Chris Galley, private sector housing manager, Sheffield City Council, said,

Authority Public Protection includes:

new features enabling assessments to be made using the Housing Health and Safety Rating System

improved capabilities to help local authorities administer the regulation requirements relating to the licensing of HMOs

  • improved capabilities to fulfil the data storage and submission requirements of the National Register of Licensed HMOs which the ODPM will be asking local authorities to provide later this year
